Gurda comes from the word garuda. The shape of Gurda motif consists of two wings (called lar) and in the middle there is the body and tail. In past belief, Garuda is the mount of Batara Wisnu, the Sun God. Hence, Garuda is used as the symbol of the sun. In Javanese community, Garuda is a symbol of life as well as a symbol of masculinity.
